Nearly 42 million Americans are waiting on their SNAP EBT deposits this month. Some already have the money. Others are still waiting. And a few may not even know their exact payment date.
Here is everything SNAP recipients need to know about May 2026 EBT payments — by state, by date, and by the rules that control it all.
SNAP is a federal program, but states control the calendar. That means there is no single national payday. Each state sets its own monthly deposit schedule — based on a recipient’s case number, last name, or a fixed date. The result: two neighbors on SNAP could get their benefits weeks apart.
No delays are expected in May 2026. There are no federal holidays falling on typical EBT processing days this month, according to reporting by Newsweek.

Florida and Texas have the longest windows — stretching from May 1 all the way to May 28. In Florida, the deposit date is tied to the 8th and 9th digits of a household’s case number. Texas uses a similar case-number system spread across four full weeks. (Marca)
California serves more than 5 million SNAP households. To prevent system overload, the state staggers all payments across the first 10 days of May, based on the last digit of each recipient’s case number.
Seven states issue benefits to all recipients on one single day — Alaska, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Virgin Islands all on May 1. New Hampshire on May 5. South Dakota on May 10.
Benefit amounts have not changed for May 2026. The USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service published the standard FY 2026 allotments in February. No emergency supplements or extra payments are scheduled this month. Amounts are still based on household size and income. (USDA FNS)
There is one more program SNAP families should watch closely.
Summer EBT — also called SUN Bucks — is coming. Starting in late May through June 2026, eligible school-age children will receive additional food benefits to cover the summer months when school meals are unavailable. States like Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, and Illinois are expected to begin distributing Summer EBT in May. Benefits will arrive either on existing EBT cards or on new Summer EBT cards mailed directly to households, depending on the state. (Propel)
Three things every SNAP recipient should do right now:
- Check your exact deposit date using your case number at your state agency’s online portal
- Monitor your EBT balance through your state’s app, the Propel app, or the number on the back of your card
- Report stolen or skimmed benefits immediately — recent federal guidance may allow replacement of funds lost to EBT skimming fraud
EBT card skimming — where criminals steal card data at store terminals — has been a growing concern nationwide. Recipients who suspect fraud should contact their state SNAP agency without delay.
May 2026 payments are already moving. Don’t miss yours.
